Re: [Cagiva_Gran_Canyon2] R/R wire question

On mine I soldered in new sections of wire.  Not sure of the difference in continuity levels but my confidence level is much higher this way.  If I need to disconnect them (haven't yet) it won't take too long to unsolder.

okay, so the infamous 3 yellow wire set that comes from the main harness up to the regulator/rectifier underneath the tailsection burned up on me. 2 wires burned all the way through and 1 wire was crunchy. The burned up portion was roughly an inch and a half (or 40mm) on the 2 wires and so I sectioned out about 7 inches ( about a 170mm) of each of the 3 wires, The copper at either end where I cut in looked aged but not green and it was still flexible. I thought about putting in the center of this section a Molex type of connector, but thought about possible continuity issues. So my few questions in regards to this in retrospect are as follows...

1) I crimp style butt connectored the wires in, should this be good enough?
2) did I section out enough wire?
3) would there in fact be a continuity problem if I installed a molex type connector?
4) what is the best way to test the whole pack of things after the fact to make sure everything is putting out and operating as it should?  I ask this last question because I was looking at LT's DesmoTimes 1st Edition guide that I have on how to test the R/R for a regular Ducati Monster/Supersport/DesmoDue by looking at battery voltage with bike off and then on and then running at 4K RPM and they should be close to one another (roughly paraphrasing from memory from late night reading after repair) and the voltages I experienced were pretty different and I want to make sure my head is in the right frame of thinking and testing before I take a test ride that will leave me in the middle of nowhere with a long push.

currently I have the set of wires isolated with a section of black currogated conduit and then wrapped with a quick layer of black electrical tape.

I did the same - as there was around 30-40mm of damaged cable I felt it was better to solder in new sections, rather than risk pulling the original cable tight...
