Most likely the sensor. You should be able to get the speedo into a diagnostic mode to see what it thinks. (the FM should describe how to do this) Sometimes...

Run a continuity test on the wire when the speedo is not working. Quick and easy and will give you an immediate answer. Then patch it like Wolf says. Jim ......

it's possible that the breather is blocked sufficiently that the pressure has backed up into the oiltank. if so, the blockage might be inside the breather...

Wolf, Seems to run plenty cool enough. I live out here in the desert and very rarely ever see stop and go so overheating hasn't been as much trouble for me...
