I haven't really driven it since late last fall when I took a 1,000 mile trip to
Lake Placid for 5 days. We even saw some snow on that trip. So today I was out
at the garages and decided it was time to0 take it out for a run. The weather
has been unusual here this spring and summer. Lots of rain and quite cool. But
today it was really nice.
I let the carb fill with gas, stabbed the pedal 3 times and it started
instantly. Of course no sooner had I pulled it out it began to sprinkle!
Thankfully it was brief.
I've been fiddling with and driving an Espada the last 2 months so this was
quite a transition. Much lighter more nimble and a LOT quicker! It was just a
delight to drive it again on such a beautiful day. Yeah, the same old quirky
faults are still there but the car ran like stink, started at once and
everything except the AC (need a new clutch) worked perfectly. Carb cars can
work very well. No idle hunting or other wierdness. The carb has been rebuilt
once in 25 years.
If feel so sorry for all those poor bastards (auto journalists) who haven't been
able to enjoy one of these unique automobiles when they're set-up right. They're
loss ...
OK, that's all.
