That is almost entirely wrong. The sulfur is a benefit to the top end of the engines (more improtantly what the sulfur is a carrier for) Brian Alley...

Ben, I do not know what the clumps are, but would strongly suggest you try and keep all water out of the reaction, as it does not take much water to spoil it....
