Peake seemed to have figured it out alright.
Ah well, guess I'll just stick with their readers. I have some
software from BMW but I think I need to make some cables for it. I know
Uwe's programmer wanted to get my car in there for testing (96 M3) but I
don't think Uwe was on-board with the idea.
Thanks,
Mark

I don't think so. I'd bet that either Uwe's programmer quit or the job
was just too difficult with all the control units different and BMW
being generally unhelpful.
tpl
Too bad looked really good. I would of purchased it, so would have my brother.

Ross and others,
if you still need beta-testing for the MINI-com, I could perform some
work for you on that side. Besides the 330Ci (you may have noticed I
posted post #17 years back on this forum, so I'm kind of a supporter,
right?? heh), we now have the Mini Cooper Park Lane (02/2006 build).
My e-mail axu@...
I have a long history in software development and a good eye for
developing especially the GUI.
I've been interested in this product for quite a while. It's been in
development for three years and I'm wondering if it is still being
developed.
This forum hasn't had any significant activity in the last six months
and I'm wondering if it is a sign tha the product has been shelved.
If it is still in development I'm wondering if there is anywhere to
get a peek at what the UI currently looks like or any of the specs.
I kow that you don't like to talk about unreleased product (and, as a
software developer I understand) but can you talk at all about
anticipated packaging? Would on base product cover all BMW and MINI
lines? What year ranges? (OBD I, OBD II, pre OBD, etc?)
What about posting a cripped, no output version of the beta for people
to get a sneak peek? OK, OK, I know that was going too far... ;-)
Thanks,
Criag J. Lovold
I now have 3 BMW's and really, really want BiM-COM.
I have:
1997 328is E36 M52
2000 540i E39 M62TU
2000 M Roadster E36/7 S52
Do you need a beta?? I'll even pay!
Someone just broke in and stole my PEAK units. I do not want ot buy again
if something is forthcoming. Even a BETA would do at this time.

plans, no.
we do have a list of marques we would like to support with future
products, and that list is periodically re-evaluated based upon market
demand, difficulty, and anticipated pricing.
such a product would almost certainly not be called BiM-COM, but
there's a good chance any future product will share some fundamental
architecture.
and that's about as close to discussing unannounced products as we're
ever going to get :-)

Do you have any plan for Land Rovers and Range Rovers?

BiM-COM is manufacturer specific, so it does not care about OBD-II, this
means it does not matter if OBD-II is "active" or not.

HI Guys
I quick question from am Ozzie. Will BiM-com work if the OBD data has
been turned off? Eg Here in Australia the government does not require
car MFG to supply any data about there cars, So BMW turns off the ODB
functions on it cars so no normal OBD code reader will work. I guess
they do this to protect their servicing market.
Thanks
Greg
Ps Have asked BMW to turn it back on and they said no, they do not
have
to provide that data and they will not. :(
Hi,
I'm curious about the initial cost estimate of your product and
timeline of availability (rough estimate). I was also curious if your
product can reset the airbag light.
Thank you
Sincerely

We won't. We'll release a version exclusively for MINI when we're
happy with it.

I have a question. Why not package the Mini Cooper package, separate
from the BMW stuff? If the MINI program works, why make the MINI
owners wait until all of the Bimmer stuff works, too?
Just a question.

I have a question. Why not package the Mini Cooper package, separate
from the BMW stuff? If the MINI program works, why make the MINI
owners wait until all of the Bimmer stuff works, too?
Just a question.

One should add a paragraph to the BiM-COM mailing list rules...
"no begging to become a beta tester"
...just my 2 cents... ;)

Given my list of autos....I think you should consider sending me a
beta version. Just a thought. :) If you think about it...I would NEVER
see the light of day and also my wife! I don't know if that's a good

that's mostly true. of course, MINI is a very complex BMW :-)...
we're now pretty good at bringing new ECU's online, now that we have
the appropriate component architecture.
> Do you have an ETA for anything?
i have personally seen and touched with my very own hands the
preliminary hardware units that will be shipped to beta testers. the
software has been stable for a while.
that said, Uwe reserves the right to establish delivery schedules.
i have my own ideas of what those are, but i like my job, so i must
refrain from sharing those. only little loose ends are holding us
back now.
> Personally I'm looking for E36 support which I assume at best will be after

that is the current schedule. only actually doing the E46 will tell
us how well we've built the architecture, but new models should enter
the product stream fairly quickly following initial deployment.

One of the other reasons given is that the BMW system is complex due to it
have a large number of modules that don't talk the same.
Quoting rich from the archives
"When VAG-COM was developed, Uwe leveraged the concept that all VAG products
use a common set of DTC's. IOW - every car, every ECU, uses the same
protocol, and reported fault codes are all the same for every one. it made
sense to develop one big program that handles everything.
BMW, however, is different. Every ECU is different. NOTHING is common. so
what i have developed for BiM-COM is NOT one big program that talks to
Mini's. what i've developed is a "plug-in" framework into which modules for
each chassis type can be individually built and licensed for use. it's like
a PC motherboard. once that is designed and built, individual function
boards can be developed and plugged in"
Do you have an ETA for anything?
Personally I'm looking for E36 support which I assume at best will be after
Mini and E46 support.

1) because there is a big groundswell of enthusiasm about the MINI, it
has a lot of diagnostic-capable modules, there is a big base of
enthusiasts interested in playing with the cars, and following the
VAG-COM model, we think they'll be more open to an introductory
product. we think the sedan owners will expect a more mature and
fully featured product. we hafta start somewhere...
2) we don't think so :-)
3) we will get to the other BMW models before long.
4) especially the E46.

I am an owner of a 2001 1.8T, 2002 325CI AND a 2003 Mini Cooper so you
can see my concern with the functionality of your software. I am about
to purchase VAG-COM in the next week or so to see if I can diagnose my
inoperable cruise control. I checked both fuses, the brake switch and
clutch switch but have not found anything. Oh well. On with the
troubleshooting. I am an electrician on F-16's so you would think I
could figure it out. Anyways...I just wanted to say HI to the board
and am also waiting patiently for the BIM-COM software.
P.S. - WHY ARE YOU DEVELOPING MINI FIRST? ARE YOU NUTS? YOU HAVE A
HUUUGE BMW MARKET. ESPECIALLY THE E46!
Howdy Uwe, I'm an old Vag Com user at German Auto in San Luis Obispo,
Ca. I just joined this group because I want my shop to be one of the
first in line to get your product! If its anything close to Vag Com,
It's going to be the best thing going. I've read the posts about every
module being different on BMW's Is there any way we can help?, send
you old, probably defective (replaced) modules? Let me know
