Hi Amitava,

R&M was Ransom & Miles{I think} from a very long time ago, they became RHP
bearings and have since become part of a japanese bearing company NTN bearings.

from a very vague memory the T refered to the type of cage fitted.
Hope this helps

Best Regards

More likely they "stole" it from him about half what they are asking.

He had the inside done up with hangers with fishing rods, etc.  It was a theme-type restoration.  Nicely done.

By the way, did you notice the black Porsche just above the A40 in the gallery?  It caught my eye because I used to own one similar to it.  They are calling it a 1979 911S R-Gruppe.  It is more like a 1969, though I can't be sure of the exact year from the photos.  It certainly is much older than a 1979.  Unusual for them to make a mistake like that.

Hey, Bill, I know that car.  It was owned and restored by a guy from West Bend, WI -- about an hour from me.  We met at the Old Car Show at Iola, WI. a couple years ago.

The car was truly nice.  He must have sold it as the driver in the photos is not him.

Well, we Austineers have made it into the hoity-toity concours d'elegance world.  Take a look at this link for pictures of the Carmel Concours including a very nice A40 Countryman.  You may have to subscribe to see these photos, but the site is quite nice and free.

Hi Amitava

It just occurred to me that the alligator bonnet refers to the look of the bonnet when open.  I guess I was thinking that alligator bonnet might have referred to the texture of the metal, or maybe a fabric covering.  I've learned something new and it's only a little past seven o'clock in the morning!  ;o

The Dorset is all snug in my garage awaiting its turn for restoration.  At present, I'm finishing the final details on my Bugeye Sprite.  I've posted a picture to the group photos section showing what it looks like at this stage.  Still needs some interior bits, a front bumper, and such, but I'm having lots of fun driving it.

Bill

Hello Gerard,  very nice to hear from you. Your 1946 GS1 looks great.  I can certainly send pictures and information on the GQC tourer and will do so as soon as I sort out my digital camera problems.  All should be ready to go in a few days time.  regards Dan.

Well, we Austineers have made it into the hoity-toity concours d'elegance world.  Take a look at this link for pictures of the Carmel Concours including a very nice A40 Countryman.  You may have to subscribe to see these photos, but the site is quite nice and free.

Gerard wow thats great.

I have opened the rear and found that the bearings on the tourer has minimal play and the no is LDJT-40 maker's name R& M . Similar bearings are on the A40 axle but numbered as LDJ-40. What will be the basic difference ? I compared both the bearings and looked similar. Even the internal and external diameter is same. Then what that T stands for. I know the full form of LDJ. Can you help?

Yep, this is how the Brits at the club refer to the scuttle hinged bonnets cars like mine and Amitava's.

oh... and speaking of Dorsets, I came across this image... thought you'd like it.

I don't think the 12 was produced beyond 1940, so they would be even more rare than the 10's and 8's

Hello Gerard,  very nice to hear from you. Your 1946 GS1 looks great.  I can certainly send pictures and information on the GQC tourer and will do so as soon as I sort out my digital camera problems.  All should be ready to go in a few days time.  regards Dan.

Austin A40 Mug and Wall Clock

Posted by: "wilkmanracing@..." wilkmanracing@...   wilkmanracing

Sun Nov 8, 2009 6:59 pm (PST)

I emailed an eBay seller some artwork and had him make up the mug in the listing below. One thing I didn't like was the placement of the artwork opposite the handle. As placed, you do not see the artwork when you are having your cuppa. I had him make another mug for me with artwork on two sides, to the right and left of the handle. That way, when I have my java, I can see the artwork whether I'm sipping right handed or left handed. I had to pay a slight premium for the double logo cup. Anyway, I really like the artwork, so I thought I'd pass the eBay auction for it along. If you want the double artwork cup, you'll have to contact the seller.

I also had a chap make a wall clock for me with the same artwork. He doesn't have one listed at this time, but here's his eBay listing for a Morris Traveler clock. If you contact him directly, I'm sure he'd make up an Austin A40 clock for you.

No financial interest, of course. I just think these things are really cool!
