Bill I think you are right I am sure they
are chrome coated brass as well rather than stainless stainless is easier to
repair than brass have to be alot more careful with
brass when panel beating as I tend to
think it could harden and then split? Might need a second opinion on that. The trim
I repaired was stainless takes a fair bit of
punishment with brass I suspect you would
need to anneal as part of the repair to keep it workable that’s my gut feelingI?

Yes, I
think you mean powdercoat. They have colors that come very close to chrome that
would probably be good on something like the grille
That might be a good idea to try...

Gerard the grills are pot metal so they are difficult to rechrome
most rechromers don’t want to touch as the process needs to strip the chrome
which is via a acid bath
without damaging the pot metal which is difficult if this is done
then the holes are filled I have heard they can use solder and then copper
coated and then
rechromed.
I wonder if the new coatings would be suitable like they have
on new cars it looks similar to chrome maybe it could be sandblasted holes
filled with epoxy and then
recoated just a thought.brent

Stainless Trim
Also, the grille
components (slats) and door handles are pot metal and as you can see, they are
pitted as well. How are these typically fixed for re-chroming?
Anybody had
experience with this sort of thing?

Harold depending on the damage to the trim its not that hard to
repair I have recently repaired quite a few stainless grill sections on my
fordson trucks they were originally very rough but they look real tidy now what
I did was made a pattern on the shape of the trim using a bolt I then was able
to slip the bolt behind the trim and tap it back into shape using it like a
dolly I spoke to a guy that does it for a living and he does exactly the same
thing the hardest part is the welding up I would get that professionally done
there will be some heat marks but that should buff off all right maybe send
some pics of the damage so we can get an idea I found with dimples I just used
a punch to push those out it actually didnt take that long to do either.

Stainless Trim
Hello
All,
Does anyone know where one might get Stainless trim repaired or made
up? I need the door trim for my Somerset Coupe repaired? It is longer
than the standard Somerset
being a 2 door rather than a sedan and I
would like to have someone weld two pieces together and polish.
Thanks,
Harold
