Don't agree to the trade until you research maintenance/repair costs on the
$$$$ coach. We thought that the bills we paid when we owned a 37' Country
Coach Intrigue diesel pusher were outrageous until we learned of the more
outrageous bills paid by two couples we know who each own BlueBird
motorhomes. It's not unusual for them to pay thousands of dollars every time
they go to the shop. We don't miss our Intrigue at all. Simplicity is a
virtue (for us).

For whatever it might be worth. I am the original owner of a 2007 29H on a 2007
Ford chassis and have not received any recall notifications. Thanks for the
phone numbers, I'll call and make sure.

I called Winnebago Service Administration at (800) 537-1885 and found out my
2007 29H was NOT affected by the recall. Have the Winnebago Serial Number (found
of driver's side door jamb) ready.

FYI....since I am the second owner, the rep suggested I call Ford to make sure
there are no open recalls on the chassis side of things (there weren't...but
that doesn't mean there were NEVER any, just that any that occurred were
addressed.)

The Ford number is (800) 444-3311, and you'll need the VIN.

Yes, you bet I would trade my Cambria 26-A for a million dollar motor home,
assuming your conference does not involve my upping any ante). My niece has a
Prevost Vantura oh what a machine. It doesn't know the differerence between 35
mph and 75. It is quiet, handles like a dream. Just the upholstery is worth
more than my Cambria. Zone air conditioning, and heat. 500+ horse power and
gets the same or better mileage as my V-10. No it is not a boon docker,
although it has one heck of a diesel generator (auto) in it. Am I happy with my
Cambria, you bet and getting happier all the time with the mods.

Ralph, my intentions are to add one more recliner, a space for a computer and a
couple of shallow drawers for all my computer and map notes. Your wife's idea
about the couch is a good one, but the bin intrusion into the space might give
you some problems. I suppose the intrusion could be modified, haven't
considered that angle, but it would cut down on your storage in that bin.
I will not undertake any modification of the horseshoe dinette until next summer
as it is Florida time. Who knows maybe I will learn to live with it after 3
months of living in the Cambria. I do have one nice recliner already installed,
but it has to be moved aft to realize the best TV angle. That still gives me
plenty of navigation room with the slide out. It locks down to the floor the
same as the tiny swivel rocker during travel using the same anchor. I made a
mechanical lock for the reclining mechanism so it does not activate on rough
roads. I don't think that it would, but if it did, it would or could knock
pictures off the walls surrounding it, it has a high back. phil

I believe Dennis is right about the dinette table being too high for computer
work. I examined the single pedestal type I have and see no reasonable way to
modify it. I guess the only solution is to sit on a cushion. A small folding
table at the swivel chair might also be a solution. Xgeoman 08 26A.

Interesting, but (if important to you) don't assume that the bigger the
motorhome, the more cargo ("weight" ... not "cubic feet") you can carry. As
for your reference to "3 little feet" ... you can one-foot yourself all the
way up to a 45-footer or more real easily! But how about it ... would you
make a straight swap for a million dollar coach? I would not, but there's
one thing that they have that I'd love to have ... a water manifold which is
in a central location. A manifold gives you the capability to turn your
water on/off by zone. For example ... if you have a major leak in the
plumbing to the kitchen sink, and the leak is within a wall, a manifold
would permit you to turn the kitchen water "OFF" without affecting the
entire rig.

Dick in answer to your question about trading what I own for a million dollar
MH. My answer is no. Our 06 Cambria 26a is perfect for our needs, is the
right length and easy to drive. We enjoy our dinette that way it is. I am
not a small man and the seating arrangements are tight, but don't have any
complaints.
We have our Cambria set up the way we want it and is serves our needs well. We
now have a Sitzu traveling companion, so removed the swivel chair and replaced
it with a small dog house, and works well. If I was a full timer, I would
probably reconsider. Regards, Mick & Andrea

Everything in life is a compromise one way or the other so are our
motorhomes.
No type/class motorhome is automatically "better" than other type nor are
trailer "better" than motorhomes or vice versa.

Several years ago I posed the following question: "If you could make a
straight swap (with no money involved), would you trade whatever you own for
a million dollar coach/motorhome? ?"

Not surprising (to me), almost everyone said "NO!" and gave good reasons for
their decision.

The "big'uns" aren't any more or less trouble free (in general) than our
motorhomes. Nor do they automatically have a higher OCCC (Occupant/Cargo
Carrying Capacity). I saw one that was only rated 600+ pounds!!

How 'bout all of you? What would YOU say to my question above?? Would you
REALLY be willing to make a straight swap?

While there's some good ideas to consider ... what are you going to use as
an alternate storage area? Our goal after 42 years of RVing is to have
everything we NEED while having NOTHING we don't need. And we have no
problem achieving that balance in our '06 Cambria 26A ... even when
preparing to be away from home for our annual 3-1/2 month winter trip to
Florida. Our Honda CR-V doesn't share the load, BTW, except for a newly
purchased table and chair set. And we carry nothing on the bed while we
travel. Been there ... done that ... won't do it again <G> . So what say
y'all? What're you gonna use for alternate storage area?

I told my wife about the idea being discussed on converting the dinette to
an area for a couple of lounge chairs. This wouldn't work for us as I use
the area bed conversion. She offered up the following alternative. Why
not insert a sleeper couch instead of the chairs and use TV trays for
eating and computer use? Just a thought

Dick I will be in the Port Charlotte area, just 4 miles East of PC,  Riverside
RV Resort.  Looking forward to getting out of Ohio winter.

I agree and have discussed this with the carpenter who will do the dinette make
over.  He tore it out to look and found nothing that would cause any problems.
Actually it is 95% foam rubber which has no structural influence on the main
body.  The one compartment goes under the seat in the back section, but it is
made out of sticks and can be beefed up with little weight change using
aluminum.  Good point though.  phil

The following is the article I quoted in the earlier re-call post. phil

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RV Recalls for September, 2009
Winnebago is recalling model year 2007-2008 Access, Aspect, Sighteer and Vista,
model year 2007-2008 Itasca Impulse, Cambria, Sunova, and Sunstar, model year
2009-2010 Winnebago

Access, Sightseer and Vista, model year 2009-2010 Itasca Impulse, Sunova, and
Sunstar motorhomes. These motorhomes may have a missing stove partition that
isolates the furnace air. If the furnace is operated at the same time as the
stove and partition is missing, the stove flame may go out and the propane gas
will continue to flow, which has the potential to ignite resulting in personal
injury and/or vehicle and property damage. Dealers will correct this situation
by installing a stove partition that isolates the stove from the furnace return
air at no charge to the owner. The recall is expected to begin on or before
October 16, 2009. Owners may contact Winnebago at 1-800-537-1885.

We too find the dinette to be less than satisfactory. They did improve it
a little when they went to the single pedestal. What I would do would be
to lower the table about 4" and reduce the circumference by an equal
amount. Because I am tall, I do use the area as my bed. I'm able to
single handedly modify it into a bed in less than 1 minute. Same for the
conversion back. The swivel rocker?...a waste.

One problem with modifying trailer'n'motorhomes is that they really don't
have actual "furniture" per se (except for the chair. What "looks" like
furniture (e.g., dinette, bed) are actually structural members and act as
"L" bracket, etc, to maintain integrity of the coach as you ramble down the
highway. I'm not saying that we shouldn't modify our rig, but keep the
integrity thing in mind.

Phil, that certainly sounds like a good plan. I suspected large bodies would
have a difficult time with the dinette.

I was having severe back pains and finally decided the cause was sitting at the
dinette table, for extended periods, using my laptop. A lumbar cushion has
helped but I am wondering now why I paid $60K for a setup that is basically
unworkable? Xgeoman 08 26A

I have already replaced the swivel rocker with a faux leather full recliner. I
am not even comfortable sitting at the dinette, to eat, even though I do. I
thought originally it would accommodate several people easily. Then found out
large people have problems getting in and out of the configuration. I have
never tried to sleep on it and probably never will. I want to explore a space
for an additional recliner, space for a portable computer desk. and maybe a
shallow drawer or two. I am not enough of a designer or carpenter to accomplish
this myself, but have had it looked at by a guy who is, he thinks he could come
up with a nice design. I will check the archives for the article already
submitted.

Having said all of the above, I still like my Cambria just fine and would do it
again. It's almost Florida time.

When we give "tours" of our '06 Cambria 26A, many folks are fascinated with
the circular dinette (click the URL in my sig block to see it). Once folks
buy and live with a 26A, however, some apparently grow to dislike the
dinette ... calling it "worthless" ... and others, like my wife and I, are
neutral on the subject. Maybe 'cause we don't sleep on the dinette cushions.
We have had a bunch of folks on board (while in a campsite) and the dinette,
swivel/rocker and swiveling passenger chair made our Cambria pretty
comfortable, considering the rig's comparatively short length.

When we watch TV (mainly in the evening), I sit in the swivel/rocker which
is alongside the dinette table. And Geri lays on the dinette cushions and
her line of sight to the TV is from her position ... over/past the table top
... to the TV screen. She swears that she's comfortable and that if she
wasn't, she'd lower the table. I believe her. Geri doesn't lie <G> .

Hi All,
Here's our experience with this recall today. After confirming with Winnebago
that our 26A was on the list, we called our dealer to have the fix taken care
of. Our appt't was today, 3 weeks after making the appointment and confirming
with the dealer that this was the reason for our visit, plus some other minor
issues. After the two hour ride, (arriving at 8am) we were told they would have
to "order the repair kit" from Winnebago and we could come back in 2-3 weeks for
the repair which will take approximately "43 minutes". I realize this is a
dealer issue and not Winnebago, but you might just reconfirm (as we did not)
that the parts are ready to be installed. Lesson learned!!

I really have trouble getting around in this forum. I guess I need to take some
time to figure it out.

What worthless dinette?

I got the notice a couple of weeks ago. Called the dealer's service department.
They knew nothing about it and called Winnebago. After they talked, they called
me back to schedule an appointment. Since I was the first to bring one in, they
were not real sure how long it would take. Turned out to be around 30 minutes.
