Brenda...
I have a single rail (could have been up to 3 rails) trailer that I
purchased and put together in the garage. The rail is about 18-22
inches off of the ground and I use a 10' REINFORCED and BEEFED UP
ramp. I bent the original real quick and bent the replacement as
well!! I, too, use the engine/brake method of loading it.
The problem is that at 425 or so pounds, it doesn't take much for it
to get away from me and over she goes. Way painful and ugly!! That
plastic is expensive.
I just turned 67 and, tho not a weakling, I do have limits. The
little 150 rides right along quite nicely behind the 2000 Hyundai
Sonata GSL, as I remove the large windshield. Still sticks waaaaay
over top of the car.
That "other" trailer sounds interesting. I'd like to see a sample of
that one.

What kind of trailer do you have? I have a 6x12 tiltbed that I use to
haul my bikes on. Easiest way to load I've found is to tilt the bed
back and simply ride the bike very slowly onto the trailer. Or have
the bike running and let it slowly walk itself up onto the trailer.
That way it does the work and all you have to do is not let it get away
from you. As an overweight, 50 something housfrau, I don't have the
strength myself to manhandle a 450 lb. bike like my AA onto a trailer.
Even my dealer does it this way when he's loading my bike/s for me.
BTW I had to have my AA hauled sometime back while in Austin [dead
batt.]. The "wrecker service" {Cyclelift} turned out to be a Jeep
Cherokee with a 3 rail bike trailer. The trailer rails cranked down to
ground level. Ken [a very neat guy btw] ran the bike onto it's rail,
strapped it in, and cranked the rails back up to the level of the
trailer frame. Very easy and very quick. If it were not for the fact
that I use my tiltbed for more than just hauling my bikes, I'd have
serious thoughts of getting a trailer like Ken's. I may anyway!!

Welcome Bob!! Only a handfull of members on this one. Good folks,
however...
I'm retired and in Reno. Have a '03 AA500 for 3 years and a '03 S150
for 1 1/2 years. Use 'em both, alternately!! and LOVE 'EM BOTH!! Each
in their own way... One for 'puttin'' and one for cruzzin'!
I'm coming to Phoenix Fourth of July time-frame 2007 for a military
reunion. Am thinking of trailering the S150 down. The 500 is too big,
any more, for these old bones to get on and off of the trailer.

Bob, Welcome! I am now in Albuquerque, NM. I ride a 2003 AA, and I
still love it. Brenda, I was in Houston (30 years) before moving here.
I rode the AA daily to work for all of 2004 - about 15 miles round
trip. (Before that, my 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 for 8 years.) There is
no authorized dealer in all of New Mexico, so I'm a little worried
about my impending service requirements (I'm about 150 miles from the
next time service is required), but I guess I'll cross that bridge
when I get to it. I typically walk to work here - something I could
not do in Houston, even if I lived at the end of the block from my
job! Too humid.
I haven't had the drive to abandon family and chores to take the
scooter on a long run - just about 70 miles and back since I've been
here. As Brenda points out, parts are the biggest headache with the
scooter. I've got a Givi top box and a Laminar Lip on my stock
windscreen. No other changes from stock.
Since I've been here, I have seen 2 other AA's - a matching pair at
the Balloon Museum. Never got to meet the riders. But plenty of 50cc
scooters around town. Lots of fun to see them. Lots of motorcycles,
too. Like Arizona, it's a beautiful state in which to ride.
OK, back to the grindstone. Welcome one and all!

Welcome to the AA family! This group has been kinda quiet, but the
Aprilia scooter group and the Scarabeo group are both pretty active.
I post on both as well as this one. I'm in south central Texas,
about halfway between Austin and Houston. There are a few of us
around here. AA's, thanks to the dealers around here seeming
inability to carry the darn things in stock, are few and far
between. I bought mine in a private party sale. But I hit 4
different dealers looking for one before making the trip up to Dallas
to see what became my bike.
I love my bike. As a 50+ ladyrider, I have no problem handling my
AA. Which is a good thing considering I dropped it quite a few times
until I got the balance point figured out! I've done up to 400 mile
day trips on it and am planning on doing longer ones as time and my
job permit.
The only complaint I have is the lousy parts set up Aprilia USA has.
My AA has been sitting in my dealer's shop for 2 months waiting on
something as simple as a voltage regulator. You DO NOT want my
opinion of that bunch in Atlanta where Aprilia USA is headquartered.
It's not printable. BUT Piaggio now owns Aprilia and when they take
full control after the first of the year, Atlanta will be "history".
Piaggio will move it's operations to their NJ/NY headquarters.
I'm hoping that the continued sales of the AA will convince Piaggio
to bring the bike back to the US market next year. Both the
Atlantics, the 500 and the 200, as well as the Rally 50 [wouldn't you
know I own that one as well!] were pulled from the US market earlier
this year. So far as I know, the 2004's are the last ones available
in the US. One of the few things Atlanta did right was order a large
number of the 2004's in order to be able to keep selling the bikes
thru this year. Unfortunately for me I'm kinda stuck. Thanks to
being "inseam challenged" as I call it [I'm 5'6"], I'm too short
legged to ride a Scarabeo 500. Ditto on the Honda Silverwing and the
Suzuki Burgman 650. I'm not crazy about the Yamaha Majesty. So if
Piaggio/Aprilia doesn't bring the AA 500 back to the US, I'll have to
replace mine with the Suzuki Burgman 400, my second choice when I was
bike hunting. I'd much rather stay with the AA's providing Piaggio
gets the parts situation straightened out.
I've put a Givi screen on mine and am planning on a Givi top case as
well. BTW the Givi cases are considerably cheaper and just as good
as the Aprilia top case for the AA if you are thinking about one as
well. I'm even thinking about the Turcano mitts and lapcover also,
although we don't get that much cold weather around here.
Enjoy your bike!
Take Care,
Brenda H.

Not much activity in this room but I will add the following comment
anyway. I own a 2003 Atlantic 500, purchased new, now has 8400
miles.
The other day I noticed an oily film developing from the area just
above the gas filler and seemed to be coming from beneath the seating
area. Not sure where it was coming from I removed the seat, took off
the plastic cover which houses the air filter element, removed the
air
filter, not seeing anything I then removed the large plastic cover
which covers the entire area beneath the seat exposing the air intake
chamber. I then discovered about 1/2 pint of an oil/gas mixture
laying
in bottom of the air intake chamber. Don't know why or how it got
there, I soaked it up with paper towels and completely cleaned the
area.
It is a little late in the season and I won't be putting many miles
on
but I will check the air chamber in a few weeks to see what is
happening.
Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, could it be
connected to the gas in the oil problem that I have heard about? RonP

Yes, both the Scarabeo 500 and the Atlantic 500 lumber off the line. I own

engine 460cc. My Beverly is a little lazy dead off the line (I live at

Hello! Sold my S150 and picked up my new A500 on Friday!
Love the bike!! BUT..... the acceleration is really disappointing!
The S150 walks away from the A500 like it was a 50cc motor.
Is it my bike or all of the A500s like this?
Does it start getting better after some breaking in???

Again Ok guys. Some warrantys I have learned over the years DO NOT
cover every little thing. Jay B. had been talking as though the
parts mentioned were not under warranty, quoting prices for each and
labor [ouch!]. Well that turned out to be a case of
crossed "wires". Jay was under the impression that my AA was NOT
still under warranty [it's a 2003]. But it was sold new in 2004 and
the warranty is good until 2006 and DOES cover the parts mentioned.
Jay has verified that so the bike will be fixed gratis, outside of
the c note in gas that it will take me to get it over there and
back!
Neither the owner's manual or the chassis/engine manuals list just
what is covered by the warranty on these bikes, at least not that I
could find. During a previous conversation Jay and I had on both my
bikes [I have a Rally 50 also], he had thouught I said that the AA
was not under warranty. My Rally is not [1 yr on the lil guys] but
the AA is so once that impression was corrected, everything is
kosher. Since I've lost all of my bike records and paperwork in a
fire, I had nothing to refer to on my own to see just what is covered
under the darn warranty. And there is no information available on
the Aprilia webisites. As usual, I might add.
Now all I have to do is get the bike over to Jay's, wait the 10 days -
two weeks it will take to get the bike checked out, figure out which
part that is causing the problem, get the darn thing ordered and the
bike fixed. BTW in that same earlier conversation I had with Jay, we
had discussed the common opinion that Aprilia's parts set up sucks.
His statement was that when he orders parts, he usually gets at least
90% in on time. According to him, that is the same average as most
of the major Japanese manufacturers. Since he is in a very small
temporary location while waiting for his new one to be "built", he
apparently doesn't keep a lot of parts on hand which is why it will
take the 10 days - 2 weeks to get the bike fixed. The first week or
so to get the bike checked out, the second week to get the parts
ordered and in and the bike fixed.
Also, there is going to be a big meeting between the Aprilia dealers
and Piaggio management coming up in October [if I remember correctly
what Jay said]. Lots of interesting stuff coming down the pike from
the sound of things.

If your scoot is still covered what would make you think that it would not be covered? If your new car charging system went bad, don't you think it would be fixed from there wallet?
Brenda - All electrical parts are included and covered by warranty. See your dealer and have him address this issue as soonas possible. Remember, all Aprilia products over 400cc are covered by a two (2) year warranty but I wouldn't wait till it expires to get anything done. Richard fssnoc#4368(KS)

Anyone have copies of the AA500 service manuals? I basically need all
three, the owner's manual and the engine and chassis manuals. I had

I've never been but I know guys who have gone and enjoyed it.
It is always the same week in August and too near school starting or sometimes school has already started so being a parent I can't make it.
It used to be dominated by Helix riders. That has changed some over the years.
And I am told the organizers are really up tight about getting folks signed up in advance. They fear of insurance claims and have been known to send those showing for a day appearance away.
As for Aprilia riders, there are large numbers of Atlantic and Scarabeo riders on apriliaforum.com/forums. Lots of Atlantic riders. Some of us have discussed a coordinated event next year.

When I removed the Givi to install the stock shield, 3 out of the required 6
bolts were not there.....and the rubber nuts were also gone. The shield
isn't very secure like that. The designers called for 6 and you should get
them, IMHO.
You might check with a Ducati dealer for equivalent parts.

I've never been but I know guys who have gone and enjoyed it.
It is always the same week in August and too near school starting or
sometimes school has already started so being a parent I can't make it.
It used to be dominated by Helix riders. That has changed some over the
years.
And I am told the organizers are really up tight about getting folks signed
up in advance. They fear of insurance claims and have been known to send
those showing for a day appearance away.
As for Aprilia riders, there are large numbers of Atlantic and Scarabeo
riders on apriliaforum.com/forums. Lots of Atlantic riders. Some of us
have discussed a coordinated event next year.

Howdy!
After reading about Scootercade in all the other scooter groups, I
was
just wondering if anyone who owns an Aprilia will be going down thre
this month for the scooter event of the year? Wish there were more
rides organized for us owner of Aprilias
Steve
I too did loose the black mounting nuts? that the windshield bolts to. I lost mine as I took it apart, the one that's lost was in the middle not the edge. I just put things back together and have had no problems because of it. wait till you ride with the new windshield.......its great!
Ok guys! I need some help.
I am in the process of replacing my stock screen with the Givi
version. Apparently a couple of the rubber nut thingies were done so
tight when the bike was assembled they were all the way through the
front screen mount/frame so that when we unscrewed the bolts, they
fell off. They have disappeared into that black hole known as the
area under the front dash. We can't find them by feel and there are
parts of the front fairing we cannot reach into [which is where I
think they are]. I will NOT disassemble my entire front end to look
for them.
As I do not feel like waiting for a week until I can get replacements
from Jay, we are looking at seeing what we can find as a substitute.
Any thoughts or ideas on the subject would be appreciated. I also
found that the front fairing piece, which covers the bottom edge of
the screen, was broken right at the left corner of the dash when you
are on the bike. Any ideas on fixing that? Although I have no idea
as to when that happened, probably one of the times I've laid the
bike down [twice btw], it has not been a problem the way it is and
hopefully will continue that way until I can get an estimate from Jay
on replacing it {OUCH!}.
Any help on both subjects will be much appreciated!!
Take Care,
Brenda H.
Ed said that they couldn't.....because of copyright restrictions. Apparently
Aprilia is strict about this.
For the same reason, I don't think I should. I suggest that you ask your
dealer to download the manuals and provide them on a CD......that's how I
got mine.
Sorry,
Ken

Well, it looks like MY email provider doesn't like the big files. I'm
checking with Ed at AF1 Racing, host of the AF1 Forums, to see if they can
provide a home for the files.
