Hi,
My name is Dave. I`m a new Atlantic 500 owner. I used too
ride
motorcycles all the time but found that all though it was fun and cool
I was missing out on the real fun, the VIEWS on the ride because of
the challenge shifting and the discomfort of the ride position. When
the market started making the bigger and cooler looking scooters I
could not resist the chance to try one and I was hooked from then on.
I would like to find a riding buddy (male or female
any age)somewhere around the Louisville,Ky area or someone that would
like to meet up for a 4 or 5 day trip every July and a few shorter
runs through out the year. I`m going to the Smoky Mountains this
summer in the second week of July and found a great place to stay in a
small cabin right in the center of all the good runs. It only cost me
$35. a night. This place has six small cabins. If anyone is interested
in joining me please email me at dave7293@... Thanks Dave
I use the Canyon Dancer (not too tight) and the wire loops welded to
the frame. Works great.

First, make sure you don't pull too tight on the handlebars...my
dealer told me of someone that broke them that way. Just snug enough
to keep the scooter from tipping.
I'm not very happy with the Canyon Dancer because of what it does to
the rubber handgrips. I've just bought another product called the
Cycle Cynch. See their website at http://www.cyclecynch.com/ I haven't
used it yet.
Second, I tie to the passenger grab handles with soft ties. Also, if
you look up under the side bodywork, about even with the rear wheel,
you will find small wire loops welded to the frame on both sides. I
suspect that was where the scooter was tied down in the shipping
crate. There isn't enough room for a hook, but maybe for some kind of
a strap tiedown.

Hiya, kids! Atlantic 500 now in Albuquerque, formerly of Houston,
Texas. No Aprilia dealers here in NM, so I can ride it to Colorado,
Texas, or Arizona when I reach the magic 8,500 mile marker (or
whatever the 2nd service interval is). Haven't decided which way to go
yet. But the left brake lever gets no resistance now, so I assume I
have no brakes on the back or the right side front. Don't know how the
pesky air gets in there, but I'll have to bleed them this weekend.
Just picked up a cool brake bleeding kit that comes with a pump to
pull the air out.
Hope all is well with everyone - ride safely!
Stan

Glad ima Member of this Group Thanks sooooo Much
Aprilia500Atlantic group ;o) and if anyone else might know wherei
can get a rear rim for my 2003Atlantic 500 thanks ;o) stay warm
Tony - The obvious question is have you tried to order one from your Aprilia dealer. Assuming you have and it is unavailable or the price is prohibitive to buy new, my dealer in Salina, Kansas has a wrecked '03' A500 that they most likely would sell the part you need at a reasonable price. I'm not speaking for them understand, I just happen to know they have the wrecked bike which belongs to some ins company in their back shop area and seem to have been parting it out. It still has the rear wheel intact.

Hi,
I'm in Austin, TX. I got my AA500 used in July and have put close to 2000
miles on it. I also have an Aprilia Caponord but find myself riding the
Atlantic more often :-) I've even taken it several times on our BMW MC club
rides and it keeps up quite well. It's also very comfortable for my wife to
ride as passenger.
You should also join the Atlantic 500 and Scarabeo 500 forum at
www.apriliaforum.com Very active and lots of good information.

I have a single rail (could have been up to 3 rails) trailer that I
purchased and put together in the garage. The rail is about 18-22
inches off of the ground and I use a 10' REINFORCED and BEEFED UP
ramp. I bent the original real quick and bent the replacement as
well!! I, too, use the engine/brake method of loading it.
The problem is that at 425 or so pounds, it doesn't take much for it
to get away from me and over she goes. Way painful and ugly!! That
plastic is expensive.
I just turned 67 and, tho not a weakling, I do have limits. The
little 150 rides right along quite nicely behind the 2000 Hyundai
Sonata GSL, as I remove the large windshield. Still sticks waaaaay
over top of the car.
That "other" trailer sounds interesting. I'd like to see a sample of
that one.

What kind of trailer do you have? I have a 6x12 tiltbed that I use to
haul my bikes on. Easiest way to load I've found is to tilt the bed
back and simply ride the bike very slowly onto the trailer. Or have
the bike running and let it slowly walk itself up onto the trailer.
That way it does the work and all you have to do is not let it get away
from you. As an overweight, 50 something housfrau, I don't have the
strength myself to manhandle a 450 lb. bike like my AA onto a trailer.
Even my dealer does it this way when he's loading my bike/s for me.
BTW I had to have my AA hauled sometime back while in Austin [dead
batt.]. The "wrecker service" {Cyclelift} turned out to be a Jeep
Cherokee with a 3 rail bike trailer. The trailer rails cranked down to
ground level. Ken [a very neat guy btw] ran the bike onto it's rail,
strapped it in, and cranked the rails back up to the level of the
trailer frame. Very easy and very quick. If it were not for the fact
that I use my tiltbed for more than just hauling my bikes, I'd have
serious thoughts of getting a trailer like Ken's. I may anyway!!
Take Care,
Brenda H.
