Most of my winter storage experience comes from owning motorcycles in Canada, The routine included spraying the entire machine with WD-40, removing the battery and putting it on a wooden block with a Battery Tender-style trickle charger and NOT starting it occasionally because the small amount of heat generated by the short run causes additional condensation where moisture can damage surfaces and parts, and NOT covering it for fear of trapping moisture under the covering.

As always - one man's opinion and grist for the mill... but it kept my batteries and motorcycles in good shape. For the Charger you might need to buy the WD-40 in bulk! :-)

Hi !

I must say that I do exactly what everyone always tells you not to do ;-)

I park the Fury (440cui) in start November, leave the car as is (no oil change, battery cables on, coolant in and all)
Just as if I was to drive it tomorrow ;-)

When spring comes (April - may), and it's time for a ride, I open the garage door, turn the key 'till the carb fills and the engine starts,
put it in gear and takes it for a spin ;-)

I know I shouldn't treat it like this, but what the heck ;-)

So as You see, I do nothing prior to storage, and the car starts fine, even after 6 months in storage.
The garage aren't even heated.

Just my two cents !

Best regards and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!!!

Peter from Denmark

I take all my batteries out of the vehicles being stored and bring them inside.
Then I hook them up to a BatteryMinder that will handle up to 4 batteries. I
have 3 motorhome batteries and the 1 for the Charger hooked together. Then a
couple of times during the winter I'll check the electrolyte level and top off
if needed with distilled water.

The C chromes attach with nuts or screws depending on how yours came apart from behind the front fender.  No, they are not easy to work with.  A lot of it is by feel, or at least that's what I ended up doing when I put mine back on.

Hi guys!!

I just gor my 66 out of the paint booth and have a question as to how the hell do you get the C chromes bolted on?? Do you have 11 inch needle thin fingers or what? Also, what kind of hardware is used to attach the stainless trim above the front bumper between the C chromes.. and the 11 inch needle thin fingers question is posed here as well..

Thanks!!

HA! Had a buddy do something equally stupid.
My first ' 67 resto had just come out of the paint shop when a 73 Cuda 340/4spd/yellow/black stripes and int. went up for sale by a family friend (who I pestered for YEARS to sell me the car,he bought it new) 39k orig. miles, dealer inst Racer brown cam and headers, faded paint.
The guys sister put most of the miles on it...he was getting married and decided to sell it for exactly what I'd just spent on redoing my 318 Charger...$ 2700.00.

Put my best friend onto it,and he bought it. Repainted car,put new radiator in it and redid brakes.About a year later some slimeball he worked with traded him even up....for the " Guaranteed chick magnet" 280Z he had bondo'd and repainted. I was sick, and beat this POS with my 100k 318 2bbl ,dual exhaust ,auto ' 67 on our first outing with ZERO effort.
Only to have insult added to injury,my other buddy pounded the 280Z with his ' 69 Ford pickup with a 352 3spd ON THE COLUMN,paint brush paint job and too many miles to count (used a quart of oil to a tank of gas, really).
This nice, original Cuda ended up at "Car Village" in Lebanon,Pa. years later painted black,air-shocked to the moon, fat tires and obviously beat to death. My buddy was sick...we stopped to look at this car, as he was looking to find another Cuda after loosing a great one to a smooth talkin' co-worker for a bondo wagon and recognized it as his old one. They were asking far more than he got for the 280Z,and it was now a beat, butchered, used up car.  He passed on it,and has regretted selling it in the first place for years.
Is there a lesson in this rant?
Yes,if you sell your beloved to a good guy, there is no guarantee he won't sell it to a "bad" guy down the road..and you my just get to see the carnage in person someday. Hang on tight for as long as you can! :)  Joe

LoL... Thank you ken for the laugh. I look forward to the groups emails everyday. I have not added my two cents worth in a long time. My Cha Cha still sits with the new engine partially installed until I get home. You see, I am in Afghanistan and hoping to make it home before Christmas. I did want to thank everyone for the emails between each other, it gives me some good reading. To all, have a Safe and a very Merry Christmas, may God bless and keep you! When I do get home, the pictures of the new 440 I will post. Take Care. Carl and Cha Cha.

Hi, all;
This string of messages makes me think of a friend of mine here in Raleigh who belongs to the Piedmont Classic Chevy Club. They broke down a few years ago, and started allowing other makes to join them, since their membership was slipping. Anyhow, he keeps wanting me to join, but the idea of wearing a T-Shirt with a Bowtie on it just doesn't work for me. Since their club allows up to 1981 model years, I have told him I won't join until I find a Chevette SS Survivor to buy!! 8^)
Anyone know where I can get one to trade my 66 for??

Thanks!!

Joe

Hi All and Merry Christmas!

A while back I posted a thread regarding a "Super Secret" restoration project we
are doing doing here. The public nature of forums has held me very leery of
saying too much here. However I do know that some of you have been inquiring
about it, more specifically a few guys attending Big Daddy's show last month
were looking for info.

Allen Ward has come to the rescue of our communication problem. Saying no more
than that, you can stay updated over at the 66-67charger.com site. It will jump
out at you in the forum section. Thank you to all that have contibuted thus far,
this has been and continues to be an awe inspiring experience. See you in
church!

Marc
