you may not have to shorten the shaft but may have to change the ujoint to a
conversion joint to match sizes if they are different. conversion joints are
quite common , if you get that far and it is a problem just give a holler and I
can look it up for you. those shafts are quite simple to shorten as long as
there is a lathe handy and even if there is not but being a farmer you may know
how to improvise.
those 14 bolt have quite an array of ratios avail but I doubt that I would go
any higher that a 3:43 because that 283 doesn't have the lugging power that a
292 would have. they have nice size rear bakes on those rear ends too. you could
do it in a day quite easily if you have everything to do the job
they are quite common
