Yay! More hope and change! (Let's change it; hope they buy it). I'll just keep
my trusty old E350 Quigley and replace the motor with a solar powered V10 in the
future.

HA! Nice.

BTW, was talking to the owner of the Ford dealership I deal with daily. He told me that corporate said Ford is NOT going to discontinue the E-series, at least for now. The plan is to offer the full size Transit along with the E-series and see how they do. Possibly to offer the E-vans to EMS, RV mfg's ect.. if the Transits take off or just offer both. But 2014 is not the end of the E-vans, at this time. Hopefully his info is correct.:D big grin

This is the ugliest van on the planet ! I believe this will prove to be a mistake by Ford. And if it sticks, at least we have Chevy/GMC vans,  for now.

I hope your info is right… I for one, would like me to see Ford offer both.. and see if there is a market for the two

I’ve been driving my Quigley for 20 years, but still would like to have a Sprinter/Transit type for business

Motor Trend reports the E-Series will be sold along side the full sized Transit.
Ford did not tell them about plans past 2014.

It is simple why...Ford would not be able to match all the configurations
presently offered in the E-Series during the first year. It will take time to
roll-out the full-line.
See my previous msg about how Ford already Trade Mark'd the T150 - T450 names.

But in the EU, the Transit comes in many different configuations like front
wheel drive, AWD, RWD, Dually, Cab Chassis...etc.

It is pretty ugly, but IMHO the Nissan NV takes the UUUGLY award for all new
vans on the market.

Also many fleet buyers that might be inclined to replace their existing E-series
vans with new E-series vans are not going to buy something else just because it
says "Ford" on it. Sort of like when Ford dropped the Crown Victoria that was a
popular police car. The police didn't simply switch to another Ford model, many
switched to Chevrolet and Dodge police cars.

I think a fleet buyer would at least take a look at Nissan, Chevrolet, and
Sprinter vans if the E-series disappeared, since the other makes already have
aftermarket accessories available.

Ford will probably offer some generous incentives to switch E-series users over
to the T-series.

We're trying to stay with diesels at work ( Action EMS ). We've had a Demers Sprinter come by. There really isnt more room inside other than the height and the doors are as tall as the van making it easier to get in and out. But the fuel economy is much better, comparing them to the V-10 and V8 gas Ford's. But this particular Sprinter ambulance is $80k. We can get a V8 E350 van/ambulance for $43k. and parts/maintenance is allot less for the Ford's.  Maybe we should install the Mercedes V6 diesel in the Ford, problem solved :D big grin
I suggested going with Chevy chassis, diesel still being available but they don't have the GVWR the Ford's have. I seriously doubt the Transit will have the GVW of the E-series.

Mercedes V6 diesel? I saw one being installed at Deetz' and I can tell you,
that's a damn good idea, Seth! (it was going into a Jeep though-but could be
done in the van)http://www.deetzperformancespecialties.com/index.html

Could someone say a little bit more about installing the Mercedes V6 diesel in the Ford vans?  I have a 6.0l diesel in my 2006 E350, and I'm very unhappy with it.  I'm especially interested in cost, fuel mileage, and the actual process.

Thanks.

All I know is that the previously mentioned install was difficult because the
owner of the vehicle got only the engine and related electrical components. But
he was originally told to get the entire donor vehicle because, apparently,
there are computers and sensors throughout the engine/electrical/fuel (and God
knows what else) systems that are integral and interdependent for proper
function of the whole system. Have a big checkbook ready. Call Deetz performance
for more info.

When you look at the MPG of Sprinter conversions, it's not all that great.  Seems they don't get even close to the MPG of an unloaded van. My diesel E350 doesn't seem to be effected MPG wise with weight at all, or even towing. Only head wind seems to make significant MPG change.
Think I'd be more inclined to put a cummings diesel in it if I was going to swap it out, mind you the VW/Audi diesel with ~500hp & 800 lb/tq would get a lookin..:)

I think if you crunch the numbers on cost of installation vs cost of any possible fuel savings over the next 5 years you will be way in the hole switching it out, Only do that if the motor dies on you or suffers catastrophic expensive damage.  Think also longevity and the earlier 7.3s are better and cheaper and easy to switch I would think compared to the V6 . Either way good luck. I have mercedes 5 cylinder diesels 3.L and love them but they are gutless at take off and a 6.9 turbo  love it and a6.9 normal aspirated love it but a little powerless and a  7.3 turbo love it but not great milage and a 96 5.9 cummins turbo loove it .

I think you’d want to use front axle, transfer case etc. from a 98 to 04 F350 which is a leaf spring setup that the UJOINTOFFROAD kit is designed for.

Hi folks I thought I would share my experience with you & ask for suggestions!
I have a 1ton chevy 4x4 van with a factory locker rear (g80 code) now being the
person I am about 2 weeks ago I had a chance to play in a muddy field & of
course I did what anyone would (well most of us) I did a few donuts slung some
mud in the air & generally had some fun! I nailed it one last time while stopped
(in hi range) she took off fine but (you knew there had to be a BUT) I heard a
clunk from the back & felt a little bit of a hitch in her step. Yep that's right
I blew the rear!
I never paid much attention in the past to talk about how easy it was to
grenade these rears, I figured it was hi HP race or off road trucks!
well they are damned easy to blow! So long story short any suggestions on a
replacement??
I have heard that you can take the weights & some other parts out of these &
add a few more clutch discs & make it a regular locker does anyone know how that
works or have you tried it?
any suggestions on after market lockers? this truck tows a heavy trailer often
& works for her keep quite a bit so it has to be road friendly & able to take
the constant strain of towing.

thought i would ask.
I'm having trouble with my 1989 F-250,.....nothing bad, but with work (60 hrs
a week) and family,......i have no time to get into it myself and i don't want
to start something i'm not going to be able to finish.
                                                    Thank You.

I've pulled the headliner out to run some coax, so thinking about getting some
insulation in there. Of course there's fiber glass, but what about closeed cell
type, spray in (boy that could get messy) or?

Will be doing that to house in future.  Often wondered about having them step out to the driveway.  Ive done a school bus roof with rigid foam (not styro) insulation.   could use spray cans in the channels.  Tiger foam is a diy kit to spray foam if you are up for it.  Let us know how the Tiger Foam works out.

You should also consider Lizard Skin.  Easy to apply (spray on), lightweight, and cleans up easily.

Interesting stuff. I wonder what it is composed of. Thickness of that spray on
seems counterintuitive to previous concepts of sound and heat insulation. I will
be running some coax in the roof area for communications too.

You can use 1/2 in pink styrofoam from DIY store. Use 2 layers and adhere
with spray adhesive. You can also use contact cement, but you only get
1 chance. Other adhesives, like epoxy cement, can be used if you fashion
a form of bent board to hold the foam in place while the glue dries.
Whichever way you go, BE SURE YOU TRY IT OUT FIRST on a small area
or metal scrap, to make sure your glue, your drying times, and your method
works. Glue has to stick to and not dissolve the foam.
Thin roll type felt insulation is also available from JC Whitney or
Raybuck. I have not used it, but I'm sure it would not take long to work
out a way to attach it.
You can use thin plywood(preferred) or hardboard paneling to hold the foam
in place. Anything that will bend enough to match the van's contours.
!/4 in hardwood ply is a good choice. Another is 1/4 fir marine ply. 1/4
construction ply or masonite hardboard, or med density fiberboard are all
cheaper and less strongalternatives, but may meet your needs. Attaching
is often done with screws into the inner wall of Ford vans or into a wood
frame that is attached to the metal beams or glued to the metal skin.
You can also attach the panels with glue. Marine stores sell decent
polyurethane glues for this purpose.Another way uses hidden fasteners, and
this is how the door panels are installed. You can buy them at JC Whitney
or hardware stores. Tear into a few vans at local
junkyards and see if that gives you some ideas. Most cover them with a thiin
underlayer of felt or padding, then a decorative or cloth layer. Each
layer is
glued to the next using spray adhesive, or held against the panel using
upholstery buttons or other fastener. You can do this either before or after
the panels are installed depending on how you will attach them to the walls.

Half-Smoke

Hello, about a year or so ago I was really wanting to get a Sportsmobile or 4x4
Van, but never got around to it. I still would like to get one eventually but I
settled with a 4x4 Jeep for now.

I build websites for a living and saw that 4x4CamperVans.com was available, so I
registered and built a website using Wordpress.

I wrote a couple articles, but never had time to really put a lot of effort into
the site plus I'm a 4x4 Camper Van newb so I don't know much about the subject.

Even though the site has pretty much sat there for a year it is receiving about
500 unique visitors per month and is ranked 1st page on Google. For the right
person, this website could bring in a nice supplemental income with
Advertisements and paid classifieds.

I've been planning on fixing the site up, adding more features and content but
I've got 20+ other websites I'm working on I wanted to let ya'll know I'm open
to any offers in the meantime.

I would like to add a Forum, more videos, featured articles and stories so if
anyone wants any content featured or has ideas about the site let me know.

You can email me at info@... for more info
