Does anyone on list have one of these. My sister is thinking of buying one and
is asking me the usual questions - I've never looked round one.
I'd be very grateful if someone could give me info on rust problems, maintenance
and the like. I imagine its monocoque construction - where do they go
particularly. What does one do for insurance - are they insured as a classic
limited mileage vehicle or what. What should one be wary of?
many thanks
james

Hi folks
Apparently these engines suffer from oil getting into the water. This has been
the case with two of these engines in my cars - first the Rebel and now the
Rialto.
When previous owners have not used antifreeze in the water, apparently there is
an oil gallery that tends to get corroded resulting in oil oozing into the
water.
Anyone know exactly where. I've got to take this engine apart and find out
what's going on. The last time I couldn't find anything. It is getting worse!!!
Suggestions much appreciated.
yours
james

A real car is a projection of a toy car, made large enough
for an adult's hand and imagination to grasp."
- Michael Frayn (British playwright and novelist)
And what about a real car made small enough for an adult's hand
and a child's imagination to grasp?
Clearly explained Tony - much appreciated. I can see now why I have a 'spare'
nozzle on the carb. Thing is - as she has run quite happily for 'sometime'
without a fuel overflow - is it WORTH THE EFFORT to connect it back up again. On
the 5a there isn't overflow but there is on the 6a. It seems it was fitted for
good measure! Not sure where I'm going to get 5/16 hose with an outside small
diameter - perhaps why the PO didn't bother. What do you suggest.
I was considering using one of the holes for a wider pipe and putting a catch
tank the other side of the fibreglass. The expansion bottle Reliant have for the
later Robin is a bit large for the Rialto - I haven't yet seen a smaller
expansion bottle that would suit. I think Maxi's [perhaps Marinas aswell] had
one that would fit in nicely.
As a teacher I was going to do lots of things this holidays but moving has taken
up and another dreaded long term of hard work awaits.
thanks again
james
