no need to use glue. Take two cuts through an inner tube. Open them both out to a circle shape and fit one circle inside the other (so you have an 'o' inside an 'o'). Obviously the fit is not exact (the inner one is a little bent), but that doesn't matter once it is in place. Take one metal end loop from the existing strap - the loop isn't 'welded', so you can tease it out with a pair of pliers. Fit it to the 'extension' Make a new metal loop (I used coathanger wire) and use that to join the 'extension' to the original battery strap. Does that make sense?

Ian, thanks for your comments.I was looking your pictures and your explanation and I don't get your "put one inside the other" part. You glued the two cuts of tube with the metal loops in the middle?Sorry to bother....

Efrain,
make sure you use a double thickness of inner tube to get enough tension to hold the battery firmly in place. I didn't show it in the pictures, but my plastic wheel cover still fits nicely over the top of the strap.

Efrain,
not ignoring you Bro. Couldn't find my camera and when I did it needed charging. Then couldn't find the charger. Finally got my act together and the photos are in an album called 'Battery Strap'.
Cheers,
ian.Â

So no one seems to make them. I took two cuts through a bicycle inner tube (inch or so wide) and put one inside the other to make an extension. I removed one of the metal loops from the original strap and fitted it on the extension. I made a connecting loop using a length of metal coat hanger to join the extension to the original strap. Job done.
Cheers,
Ian.
