This Group is dedicated to discussion of the rare (in the USA) 1987 Mercedes Benz, 300TD Turbo Diesel Sedan and Station Wagon. Based upon the W124, "E Series" chassis, this car was only imported to the USA in 1987.

It has the (also rare in the USA) 3.0L in-line six cylinder turbo diesel engine with iron block and aluminum head. The engine is designated the 603, OM603, or OM603.960. This engine was also used in the USA versions of the 1986-87 300SD and 300SDL W126, designated the 603.961 OM603.961

Although the body and interior parts and systems of the 1987 300TD are shared in common with most of the W124 based "E" seriees vehicles, there are many other forums with good information on general MB wor W124 topics. So this forum is dedicated to discussion of the unusual features and issues of OM603 turbo diesel vehicles..

Discussion of the 300SD, and 300SDL with the OM603 engine is also welcome...due to the shared engine.

I am a new owner (as of 7/2006) of a 300TD Wagon and formed this Group to learn as much as possible about it and share information with other owners of this vehicle and/or the 603 engine.

I am also the founder/moderator of the SubaruVanagon Yahoo Group...dedicated to installing Subaru engines into VW Vanagon/ T3 / Transporters.

Discussion of use of alternative fuels biofuels, biodiesel, WVO, SVO, are welcome if discussion is about using these fuels with the OM603 engine.
