Just to let you guys know, the dash in question is a standard part but was wrinkle blacked. You can powder paint but the chrome lines have to be saved. As for the nameplate, it is near impossible to locate...i only have one. The tank badge is common except fot the AMF. I have never seen one available. The derby "Closeneau emblem", as Harley calls it are very hard to find but i do have an extra one if you want it. Hope this helps.

Hey Chris.. I do still have the rest of the covers but alas the name plate is gone.. I have about 15K on mine so it's pretty low miles.. You have any idea what these bad boys sell for? I am not actively trying to sell it but I would love for it to go to a good home and kept pretty.. I want to beef up the motor and such so a "non-exclusive" shovel would be better for me... I am in RI have you located any other riding Heritages??

Hi Gerard, The original dash cracked on mine due to vibration. It was identical to the standard 1981 flh dashboard, But it had an olive drab stick on inlay that you could have engraved with your name and then stick it on over the key switch. It said "This 1981 Heritage Edition was especially built for ------- " And your name could be filled in on the blank. I still have mine, But I changed out the speedo to a 120 mph model along with a dashboard that was the same, But my name plate was damged while trying to remove it and re-install it on the new dashboard. There was also a gold chromed heritage emblem on the clutch cover that didn't last very long. I was told those parts could not be had by my local HD dealer, Because there were only the number made for the Bikes. The stock speedo only registered 85 mph in those days. I'm in Upstate SC USA. How about yourself? How many miles is on your's?--Later,
Chris
Where are you located? I just found out that I don't have the original dash from my bike.. that is the only piece that I am missing .... Do you still ride yours?
I also have a 1981 Heritae FLH. Interested in corresponding eith others.

Hi Gerard, Your's isn't even broken in yet! As for value, I wouldn't know what one would go for these days. It looks to me that Shovels still have a strong following, But like the pans and knucks, They seem to be for the real entusiast and not just the New Harley crowd. It's been 15 years since I have seen another one on the road, and it was at Daytona bike week. It was for sale at 9 grand and had low miles. As for keeping it fairly original and beefing up the motor a little, I would recomend a solid lift cam and a good single fire ignition with a decent carb . If you still have the original electronic igniton, I would definately change that out to something reliable! A points and condenser kit went in mine and still is.The factory had the crankcase breather tube routed to the breather for emissions control, and it will pump oil into your breather if you don't re-route it to the bottom of the frame and let it point to the ground. The stock carb and ignition was the first thing I changed out. I installed the solid lifter adapter kit from sifton and increased the performance dramtically. The stock hydraulic lifters would float out at 70 mph when mine was new. I ran a sifton 440 for a few years , then switched out to the 55Q sifton which had a lower lift but more duration. It helped with the low end torque better than the 440 cam and it hits a lick like an old panhead!
If you sell your's and don't mind telling me what it brings, I'd love to know. Of course mine has alot more miles on it, But it isn't for sale. Write back anytime bro!--Chris
