I've inherited a 67 GT 350 in the last couple of weeks. Here's the
long short of the back story.
Dad is the original owner, Dad does modifications and races her for a
few years, Dad meets Mom in said car, Mom gets pregnant, car sits in
garage for 10 yrs.
Fast forward Dad takes car for body work at a trusted shop over an
extended period of time (they work on it when they have spare time).
When the body work is finished (no paint) the car was taken to another
shop for storage only.
Here's where everything goes south. The shop where the car was being
held for storage purposes only, decided to give my Dad a quote for
paint roughly 10,000+. Not having that kind of money laying around my
Dad declines. Despite this, the paint job was done without approval
and the bastards try to lien sale the car.
Dad goes to pick up the car with sheriffs officer in tow and Gasp...
the shop owners had poured liquid paint remover over the entire
car, tires, and wheels and left it to sit for at least a week. Best we
can guess the owners fled to Mexico. There's an ongoing investigation.
So to my question, most of the car (1/2-3/4) is covered in rust. It's
a sad, sad, state to see this girl in. Where do I start? I don't need
show quality perfect it's an heirloom meant to be driven. That leads
to another question, I'm fearful that the aforementioned bastards may
have done something to the engine to sabotage it so it hasn't been
started in quite some time.
I realize that this is a huge undertaking and will take hundreds of
woman hours to get under control, but it's a labor of love.
I'm willing to do whatever it takes.
