Twenties 1920s indian chief motorcycles charles bayly franklin
This group is a forum for exchange of information about running and riding the helical-gear-primary Indian Chief motorcycles designed by Charles Franklin, and made in Springfield, Massachusetts from 1922-1932. The aim is to help keep surviving bikes road-worthy, and encourage their use on the road as far as is practicable.
The Group is also something of a shrine to the memory of Charles Bayly Franklin, though the Group's focus is more on "the machines" than on "the man". More information about Franklin's life and works is provided at http://www.geocities.com/charles_b_franklin.
Other vintage Indian models like the Scout and Prince, and veterans like the earlier Hedstrom/Powerplus models, also have a warm welcome in this Group, because I don't know who else caters for them in a specialized way, apart from the club-members-only 101scout yahoo group, and a group set up recently for Powerplus (see the Links section of this Chief group).
The main web forum for discussion of all things Indian is (and should remain) the VirtualIndian Group [http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VirtualIndian/] and anyone posting here is encouraged to cross-post to that Group also. It is intended that this 1920sChief Group be a repository of information just for these (and earlier) bikes, while discussion be shared with the wider VI Group.
Any member can add material to the Files and Photos sections, but if I see anything I don't like then I reserve the right to remove it. The usual email etiquette shall apply to Messages. Upon joining your first posting will be moderated, so I can decide whether you're genuine or just a spammer.
Best regards
Tim Pickering (Group owner)
