Ok, Kevin, here goes!
Mine is a 1985 2.0L 5-speed wagon that I found abandoned outside a
mechanic's shop. The engine had been pulled out and disassembled when
the owner lost interest and just left it there. The engine was all in
pieces in the cargo area.
As for the body, there wasn't any rust or collision damage, so I made
the mechanic an offer, which he gladly took just to get rid of the
hulk. Upon assempbly of the engine, I discovered that the poor thing
had been severely abused. All the bushings in the suspension were
gone, as were the braking system, electrical system, wheel bearings
and most every other moving part.
I have since rebuilt the suspension and brakes, got a new exhaust
pipe from the engine block to the muffler tip, rebuilt the starter
motor and alternator, flushed the cooling system, installed an OEM
cooling fan (some sucker had installed a Nissan fan motor, which
didn't fit behind the grille, so they just forced it into place,
shattering the grille to pieces) and countless other things.
It is now in the final stages of the mechanical reconstruction.
Tomorrow I will install the rebuilt power steering unit and get new
tires for it (Toyo 205/60/13). I have already installed the Euro
headlamps and grille.
I will be posting some pics as soon as I make it a bit more
presentable.
At the time I am looking for a pressurized carburetor to make it a
carburetted turbo (the turbo compressor will be courtesy of an old
Chrysler LeBaron or similar), so if anyone out there has a
pressurized carb they want to sell, pleaselet me know.
Alex
